Founding Vice Chancellor Receives State Award

An “Officer of the Order of the Volta” award has been conferred on the founding Vice Chancellor of the University of Energy and Natural Resources and Natural Resources, Prof Mrs Esi Awuah by the President of the Republic of Ghana.

The award, one of the highest state honours in Ghana, was in recognition of Mrs. Esi Awuah’s outstanding contribution to public service, especially in the field of engineering, environment and sanitation education in Ghana.

A citation accompanying the award, described the recipient as a distinguished researcher with over 100 publications which had already won her the UNESCO Mondi logo Award in 2007 for innovative research in engineering.

Prof Mrs. Esi Awuah was among over thirty (30) other distinguished personalities including two other former Vice Chancellors who were bestowed similar awards for meritorious service to the Republic.

Prof Mrs. Esi Awuah, a product of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and State University of New York, Syracuse, USA joined KNUST as a Graduate Assistant in 1980 and rose through the ranks to become an Associate Professor in the early 2000s.

She was appointed as the foundation Vice Chancellor of the University of Energy and Natural Resources in 2012 and retired in 2016.
