The Honourable Deputy Minister for Energy and Petroleum, Hon. John Jinapor has on behalf of the Ministry donated four (4) sets of solar camping light with USB charger, comprising a solar panel, LED lamps, phone charging USB port, rechargeable battery and AC adaptor, to the University of Energy and Natural Resources at a short ceremony on Thursday July 17, 2014.
The donation formed part of the Honourable Deputy Minister’s Monitoring and Implementation visit to the Brong-Ahafo Region.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mrs. Esi Awuah, in her welcome presentation emphasised the cordial relationship and the support that the Ministry has over the years accorded to the University. She took the opportunity to urge the Ministry to continue supporting the University in overcoming the infrastructural and logistical challenges currently facing the University, especially in the provision of science laboratories for the students. Additionally, she requested for the Ministry’s support for the University’s proposed plan to establish an offshore oil and gas disaster management program in the Western Region.
The Honourable Deputy Minister in his response expressed his satisfaction with the progress of work of members of staff of the University and was particularly delighted with the University’s introduction of the BSc. Fire and Disaster Management program scheduled to take off in the 2014/2015 academic year. He assured the University of the Ministry’s support for the programme and added that he would make recommendations for the organisation of refresher courses for staff of the Ministry at the University.
Also present were the Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Daniel Obeng-Ofori, the Brong Ahafo Deputy Regional Minister, Mr. Justice Samuel Adjei, Professor Thomas Akabzaa, Chief Director of the Ministry, staff of the University, officials from the Brong Ahafo Regional offices of GRIDCo, Volta River Authority and the Brong Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council.
