Pro Vice – Chancellor

The Pro Vice Chancellor, Dr. Emmanuel Opuni-Frimpong is a consummate Research Scientist (Forest Science). He had his B.Sc. (Hons) Natural Resources Management and M.Phil in Silviculture & Forest Management at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana in 1994 and 2001 respectively. In 2002, he was awarded Research Assistant position at the School of Forest Resources and Environmental Science, Michigan Technological University, USA which enabled him to pursue his Ph.D. in Forest Science (Forest Health) in 2006.

 He joined the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)-Forestry Research Institute of Ghana in 1995 as an Entomology Research Assistant and in 2003, he was employed as a Research Scientist. After the completion of his PHD programme in 2006, he worked as a Postdoctoral Research Scientist at the School of Forest Resources and Environmental Science at the Michigan Technological University, Houghton, USA.

Dr. Emmanuel Opuni-Frimpong returned to Ghana and continued his work at the CSIR-Forestry Research Institute of Ghana in 2006 as a Research Scientist and rose through the ranks to the position of Principal Research Scientist in 2015.

Dr. Emmanuel Opuni-Frimpong has rendered services on 15 Committees/Boards including the National Committee for the establishment of Public University in Sunyani and also chaired the Regional Committee that supported the Regional Co-ordinating Council (RCC) in establishment of the University of Energy and Natural Resources.

He has spearheaded about 16 funded research projects and has over the years developed his networking and fund raising skills that had yielded over $2 million dollars in research funding over the last 10years. Currently, he is the lead person for Ghana and West Africa on a collaborative research project with participants from 7 African countries and Forest Genetic Research Institute of Germany as the Lead Organization into ″Development and Implementation of Species Identification and Timber Tracking System in Africa with DNA Fingerprints and Stable Isotopes″.

He has over 54 research publications and 17 technical Papers/Reports to his credit. He is a member of the Forest Invasive Species Network for Africa, Entomological Society of America, Ghana Institute of Professional Foresters (GIPF), Ghana Association for the Conservation of Nature (GACON) and Lepidopterist Society of Africa.

Dr. Emmanuel Opuni-Frimpong has contributed immensely in the academia both locally and internationally as Adjunct Associate Professor, Adjunct Assistant Professor, Part-Time Lecturer, External Examiner,Visiting Scientist to a couple of academic institutions and has made academic presentations at several fora across the world. He has supervised several undergraduate and postgraduate students thesis.

 He was the head of the Forest Improvement and Productivity Division at theCSIR-Forestry Research Institute of Ghanauntil his appointment as Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Sunyani in September 2016.

Dr. Emmanuel Opuni-Frimpong is a Christian and married to Mrs Nana Yeboah Opuni-Frimpong and they are blessed with four (4) children.

Dr. Opuni-Frimpong, until his appointment, was a Principal Research Scientist and the Head, Forest Improvement and Productivity Division, CSIR-Forest Research Institute of Ghana and Adjunct Associate Professor of Michigan Technological University.
