Hon. Kennedy Agyapong Graces UENR SRC Akwaaba Summit

The Member of Parliament for Assin Central Municipality, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong on Thursday, February 23, 2023, graced the UENR SRC Akwaaba Summit. The annual event, which is usually held to welcome Freshmen to the University was on the theme, “Start Right to End Right”

The seasoned Business Man first paid a courtesy call to the Management of the University at the Council Chamber where he held discussions with them. The Vice-Chancellor in his remarks welcomed the MP and thanked him for accepting to visit the University campus. Discussions at the Chamber also centered on the best measures the University can be supported to provide quality education for the youth in Ghana. The Vice-Chancellor mentioned that though the University is performing well, it still needs assistance in terms of infrastructure development. He further called on the MP to help to address the challenges faced.

Speaking at the Summit, the Vice-Chancellor commended the SRC executives for taking the initiative to invite MP who is well-versed in entrepreneurial skills. He noted that ” Coming to speak to our students on this day is laudable and timely because the University is inculcating entrepreneurship as part of its formative programme for the students. As they listen to you, it will serve as a motivation and they will get to know the importance of pursuing entrepreneurship after school”, the Vice-Chancellor added.

Addressing some staff and the thrilled students who filled the University Auditorium, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong expressed appreciation to the University Management and the SRC Executive body for extending an invitation to him to speak to the young students. He acknowledged that the future belongs to the youth, hence they ought to start it right.

Delivering as the Keynote Speaker on the theme, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong advised the students that “if you want to start it right, you have to start while in school, learn to save some stipends given to you by your parents because today somebody is paying your fees, tomorrow you will be on your own”, he said. He also charged them to be disciplined, hardworking, confident and assertive in order to succeed in their career and lives as a whole. Hon. Kennedy Agyapong before leaving the stage pledged to provide the University with 1,000 tables and Chairs and also promised to fix air conditions at the University Auditorium. 

The Students Representative Council President, Mr. Emmanuel Baffour Swanzy, in his speech, expressed appreciation to the MP for honouring their invitation. He believed that the presence of the MP served as a motivation for the students to start it right in school.
