HOW TO APPLY

All prospective applicants must read the Application Guidelines & Entry Requirements attached on Programme Requirements, How to Apply, and any other important information about the University.  Prospective applicants must only begin the application process after carefully reading the instructions.

Entry Requirements Overview

Applicants may qualify for admission to UENR through any of the following entry routes.
Some programmes have additional or programme-specific subject requirements, so applicants
should review the detailed requirements for their preferred programme before applying.

WASSCE / SSSCE Applicants

WASSCE applicants must have credit passes from A1–C6, while SSSCE applicants
must have credit passes from A–D, in six subjects comprising:

  • English Language
  • Mathematics
  • Integrated Science or Social Studies
  • Three elective subjects relevant to the programme of study

General Business Certificate Examination (GBCE) Applicants

Applicants must have credit passes from A–D in six subjects, comprising
three core subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, and
three relevant elective subjects.

Advanced Business Certificate Examination (ABCE) Applicants

Applicants must hold a full ABCE Diploma Certificate. They must also have
credit passes in five subjects at GBCE, SSSCE or WASSCE level, including
English Language, Mathematics, and Integrated Science or Social Studies,
together with two optional subjects relevant to the programme of study.

GCE Advanced Level Applicants

Applicants must have passes in three GCE Advanced Level subjects, with
at least one pass at Grade D or better. They must also have credit passes
at Grade 6 in five GCE Ordinary Level subjects, including
English Language and Mathematics.

A Science subject is required for non-science applicants, while an Arts subject is required
for science applicants.

Higher National Diploma (HND) Holders

Applicants must hold a good Higher National Diploma (HND) and have relevant
working experience. Applicants may be required to write an entrance examination and/or
attend an interview as part of the admission process.

Diploma Holders

Applicants with a UENR Diploma or a recognised equivalent qualification, together with
relevant working experience, may be considered for admission.

Applicants may be required to write an entrance examination and/or attend an interview.
Successful applicants may be admitted to Level 200 or Level 300, depending
on their FGPA and area of study.

Other Recognised Qualifications

UENR also considers applicants with recognised qualifications such as:

  • International Baccalaureate (IB)
  • Cambridge IGCSE
  • American Grade 12 Examinations
  • Other external qualifications considered equivalent to WASSCE/SSSCE or
    GCE Advanced Level qualifications

Applicants using these qualifications should review the detailed admission guidelines
for the applicable equivalence and subject requirements.

International / Foreign Applicants

International applicants with any of the recognised qualifications above, or their
equivalent from an accredited or recognised institution, may apply.

Important: International applicants must submit their certificates to the
Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) for evaluation and attach the
evaluation report(s) to their application.

Applicants for UENR’s two-year Diploma programmes must generally have
WASSCE credit passes from A1–C6 in the following subjects:

  • English Language
  • Mathematics
  • Integrated Science or Social Studies
  • At least two elective subjects relevant to the programme of study

Individual Diploma programmes may have specific elective subject requirements.
Applicants should therefore review the detailed entry requirements for their preferred
programme before applying.

Diploma Programmes Available

UENR offers Diploma programmes in areas including:

  • Fire, Safety & Disaster Management
  • Natural Resources Management
  • Geoinformation Science
  • Geomatics
  • Statistics
  • Computer Science

Note: Meeting the general admission requirements does not automatically
mean an applicant meets the requirements for every Diploma programme. Programme-specific
requirements should always be checked before applying.

Applicants seeking admission through the Mature Entry route must meet
the University’s age, work experience, academic and entrance examination requirements.

General Requirements

  • Be at least 25 years old and provide a birth certificate or other
    acceptable documentary proof of date of birth.
  • Have at least five years of working experience in the relevant discipline.
  • Pass the UENR Mature Students’ Entrance Examination.

Entrance Examination

The Mature Students’ Entrance Examination covers:

  • English Language
  • Mathematics
  • Aptitude Test

Academic Requirements

SSSCE Applicants

Applicants must have at least Grade E in six subjects, comprising
three core subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, and three relevant
elective subjects.

WASSCE Applicants

Applicants must have at least Grade E8 in six subjects, comprising
three core subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, and three relevant
elective subjects.

Preparatory Classes

Mature applicants may be invited to participate in preparatory classes
to help them prepare for the entrance examination.

The date for the Mature Students’ Entrance Examination will be communicated to applicants
after the close of the sale of application vouchers.

Note: The University has the right to revise the admission requirements at any time when it becomes necessary.

CURRENT WASSCE CANDIDATES

Candidates who are yet to receive their final WASSCE results may also apply. Such applicants should select “Awaiting Results” in place of the grade when completing the online application form.
