The Chairman of Ghana Institution of Engineers in the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo Regions and the Head of Earth Observation Research and Innovation Centre, Ing. Dr. Emmanuel Nyantakyi has advised members of the Women in Engineering Association, UENR Chapter, to be empowered to break the barriers to become the engineers the world needs.

According to Ing. Nyantakyi, one can only be a good engineer when real-life problems are solved and this could be achieved through diversification, nurturing and innovation. He encouraged members to learn new things to acquire knowledge by attending more STEM conferences and taking mentors to emulate. He however called on the Association to celebrate fellow women engineers in the industry. Ing. Dr. Nyantakyi was speaking at an Akwaaba Summit organized by the Women in Engineering (WinE), UENR Chapter to usher in the first year’s women who are offering Engineering on February 3, 2023, at the University. The aim of the Summit was to elaborate on the benefits they stand to gain in pursuing a program in Engineering. The Summit was under the theme; ‘Empowering Women in Engineering, Breaking Barriers and Building Futures’.

Ing. Dr. Mrs. Mary Antwi, WinE-UENR Chapter Patron and the first female Engineer in UENR on her part used the opportunity to advise them to be focused and study hard to be eligible to fit for the industry after graduation. She urged them to be skilful and ready to solve real-life problems.

Sharing her experience in the industry, Ing. Jacqueline Obeng, a Lecturer at Sunyani Technical University entreated the students to trust their lecturers and build a network because through that they can have the chance to attain their goals in life. She admonished them to take on volunteering jobs, which can open their eyes to learning new things.
