You are welcome to the Department of Geographic Science, UENR. We acknowledge that education, research and training are indispensable tools in the quest to address pressing environmental and human development challenges. Humanity is not static by dynamic. Over the years, man has improved on the approaches he uses in solving these challenges through research. Often the knowledge generated in the academic sphere is used to train the needed manpower and also used to improve earlier approaches. Public and private sector firms dealing with spatial challenges of natural resources, energy production and distribution, waste management, water and sanitation management, environmental change and environmental protection require skilled professionals. Such professionals should be capable of combining critical thinking and teamwork skills to their theoretical and practical skills in order to appreciate and solve spatial problems. To this end, the Department of Geographic Science trains its students to pursue scientific exploration and discovery of the Earth in order to:

  • Understand anthropogenic activity, the earth system, global climate change, its effects and their implications for sustainable development.
  • Apply state of the art methods and equipment to understand geographical data acquisition processing and interpretation.
  • Equip students with the necessary theoretical and practical skills to effectively contribute to solving a variety of problems including spatial, environmental and developmental challenges.
  • Influence policy through cutting edge research and dialogue with relevant stakeholders.
