In a bid to empower and educate the younger generation on climate change, the Centre for Climate Change and Gender Studies (3CGS) at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) has organized a quiz competition for Senior High and Basic Schools in the Bono and Ahafo Region under the sponsorship of Action Aid Ghana.
Saint Mary’s Junior High School emerged winner of the Junior High School category whereas Sunyani Senior High School (SUSEC) won the contest for the Senior High School level. They competed with Mmeredane Junior High School and SDA Senior High School respectively.
According to the Head of 3CGS, Dr. Mary Antwi, the competition was to climax the educational campaign aimed at raising awareness among the youth about the pressing issue of climate change. The goal was to empower and inform them of their role in mitigating its impact and instilling a sense of responsibility towards the environment. She highlighted that the quiz was not only a friendly competition but also served as a platform to test and further enhance the student’s knowledge and understanding of climate change.

Expressing his excitement, Adu Daasebre Nana Kwasi, a contestant lauded the program for its educative nature, especially in training students to actively engage in afforestation practices.
In her closing remarks, Dr. Mary Antwi commended all the participating schools for their outstanding performances and impressive display of knowledge. She urged the students to continue utilizing the knowledge gained in their efforts to improve the environment, emphasizing their crucial role as the next generation.
The programme was graced by the Dean of the School of Natural Resources, Prof. Berchie Asiedu and other personalities from the Ghana Education Service(GES) within the region.
