The Vice-Chancellor of UENR, Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako at a training workshop held for Deans, Heads of Departments and Centres of the University called on them to work in unison with other Management of the University to achieve the vision of the University. According to him, the University has a lot of potential to be a world class institution if only all hands-on deck work towards the ultimate vision of the University. He however, acknowledged that though the University is faced with many challenges it should not hinder working for the progress of the University.
Remarking further, the Vice-Chancellor in his welcome message to the participants noted that the training seeks to sharpen their leadership skills to enable them function effectively in their various duties. He urged them to keep learning basic ICT skills in this era of technological advancement to ease the delivery of their task as leaders in the University.
Other Resource Persons at the training included the Former Pro Vice-Chancellor of UENR who is the current Vice-Chancellor of Catholic University of Ghana, Prof. Daniel Obeng-Ofori and HoD of Renewable Energy and Engineering, Prof. Nana Sarfo Agyemang Derkyi who both took turns to present on the topic “Academic Governance and Leadership-SALT Lens”. Prof. Obeng-Ofori in his delivery mentioned that a good academic and proficient leader uses his influence to inspire and maximize the efforts of members towards the achievement of a goal. He listed intelligence, initiative, self-assurance, dependability, enthusiasm, integrity among others as some of the characteristics of good leadership and encouraged the participants to emulate these qualities as heads of various offices in the University.
The Registrar, Solomon Panford, Esq., APR, also walked the participants through the Administrative Principles, Procedures and Skills for Academic Leaders. Other topics covered are but not limited to budget preparation, funds management and control measures, networking and partnership, procurement procedure and adherence to health and stress management and others.
The 2-day Workshop themed “Transformational Leadership, Management and Resource Mobilization in Enhancing Higher Education Governance at UENR” was organized by the Centre for Professional Development (CePDev) and the Human Resource Division from October 13 to 14, 2022, with funding from the Regional Centre for Energy and Environmental Sustainability (RCEES).
