The newly recruited senior members of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) have been taken through two-day orientation programme by the Human Resources Division under the theme: Building and Making UENR A Better Place of Work. The programme which was held at the University auditorium on the 5th of May 2021, aimed at familiarizing the new staff the University system and to create an enabling work environment.
Giving the opening remarks, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adekoya Felix Adebayor said the orientation programme was to empower and guide the new staff to acquaint themselves with the University environment. He added that UENR is an organization with its own structures and regulations used in the management of the University and encouraged the staff should feel welcomed as well as associate themselves with the University system. The Pro-Vice-Chancellor took the opportunity to share the Vice-Chancellor’s vision which hinges on the University’s mission and vision. He urged the staff to be innovative and critical thinkers in providing solutions to challenges facing the University assuring that management is working round the clock to provide a conducive working environment for members of the University community.
The Registrar, Mr. Solomon Panford presented on the topic: Developing the Right Attitude for Excellence. He explained that to achieve the vision and mission of the University, staff must cultivate a good attitude towards work. Speaking on shared values, the Registrar noted that staff should align their work values with the University’s mission and vision. He further told the participants to brand themselves well to augment the image of the University.
The Acting Head of Human Resource Division, Mr. Alfred O. Appiah took turn to present on the topic: The Governance, Administrative Structure and Systems of the University. He indicated that the University has a governance structure with the University Council being highest in the hierarchy. Mr. Appiah mentioned the statute and other administrative policy documents are used in governing the University. He admonished the new staff to follow the right channel in addressing their concerns. He also explained to them conditions of service pertaining leave, allowances, upgrade, promotion among others.
The new staff were also taken through topics such as Financial Procedures and Regulations within the University; Planning for a Happy Retirement as well as presentations from Insurance companies.
The day-two of the orientation covered topics regarding the specific duties as teaching and non-teaching senior members of the University. Some of the second topics discussed included: My Role as a Lecturer at UENR Lecturer’s Assessment on Semester Basis; Understanding your Career Path within the University System as Teaching Staff; Improving on your Loyalty for Effective Stakeholders Relationship.
