Subsequent to an established collaboration between the School of Natural Resources (SoNR) of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) and Lakehead University in Canada, the School on Monday, September 5,2022, received a delegation from Lakehead University. The delegation, consisting students and staff of the School of Natural Resources, Lakehead University were on a familiarization visit to the School which offered both institutions to interact and share ideas as well as learn new cultures.
In his address to welcome the Delegation at the University Auditorium, the Ag. Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John K.M Kuwornu said the longstanding partnership with Lakehead has been beneficial to the training of students and faculty at the School of Natural Resources. He added the relationship is to strengthen learning, exchange of knowledge and programmes and to appreciate both Universities.
The Dean of the School of Natural Resources, Prof. Simon Abugre gave a presentation on the mandate and activities of the School. He highlighted that the school partners local and international institutions to provide practical experience to students and faculty members. He disclosed that the School plans to have a training centre at a forest reserve where students and other foresters would be trained.
The lead delegate, Prof. Mathew Leitch also took the students through their Faculty of Natural Resource Management. Prof. Leitch mentioned their faculty seeks to achieve excellence in teaching, learning and research adding that they have among other activities advanced in community engagement, expanded international relations all geared towards natural resource management. He emphasized the need for students to keep exchange programmes on semester basis.
The interactive session, which was well attended by students and staff of SoNR saw the UENR Cultural Troupe entertain the visitors with some Ghanaian cultural dances. They were also served with local drinks such as sobolo, asana and others.
