Students at the School of Sciences have taken the lead in a visionary initiative to fund the construction of a state-of-the-art 4-storey laboratory block. Spearheaded by the Departments of Nursing, Biological Science, and Medical Laboratory, the project aims to enhance teaching and research activities with modern facilities, including offices for staff, spacious laboratories, and well-equipped washrooms.
The ambitious endeavor, celebrated at a sod-cutting ceremony, was commended by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako. Speaking highly of the initiative led by the Dean, Prof. Samuel Fosu Gyasi, the Vice-Chancellor acknowledged the importance of such projects and the collaborative spirit among staff and students at the School. Prof. Asare-Bediako encouraged other departments to emulate the same initiative, emphasizing the collective responsibility of all stakeholders in the university’s development.

Prof. Samuel Fosu Gyasi, the Dean of the School, revealed that the initiative’s roots were planted six years ago when the School identified the need for additional funding. The initial funds were utilized to acquire a school bus, marking the beginning of a journey that has now materialized into the construction of the impressive 4-storey building. The Dean expressed his satisfaction with the progress and urged the construction company, Adjani Yin Limited, to complete the project within the stipulated time frame.
At the ceremony, the Director of Works and Physical Development, Diyaudeen Mahmud Khalid, officially handed over the project site to the contractor. Work is set to commence in two weeks, with the project scheduled for completion in twenty-four months.
The Registrar, Dr. Mrs. Georgina Asi Owusu, along with Directors, Staff, and Students of the School, attended the historic event. The atmosphere was filled with anticipation and excitement as the School of Sciences embarked on this significant venture, contributing to the university’s growth and development.
