UENR SRC TO CONSTRUCT CAFETERIA AT THE DORMAA CAMPUS

The Governing Council of the Students Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Sunyani together with the University Management held a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, for the construction of a 150 capacity cafeteria at the Dormaa Campus.

The SRC President, Mr. Richard Wiafe briefing the gathering indicated that one of the Council’s core mandates is to ensure the welfare of students in the University. He added that upon engaging the students at the Dormaa Campus, they requested a cafeteria that would serve both students and staff at the campus. Again, he mentioned that the project when completed would have offices, a kitchen and space for SRC-related activities.

In a short address before the groundbreaking, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako commended the SRC executives for such an initiative to serve the students at the Dormaa campus in support of effective academic activities. He noted that the commencement of the project was a clear indication of a good work relationship between the University Management and the SRC.

He explained that the University runs a multi-campus system, where various programmes key to national development are pursued. Therefore, he said projects ought to be extended to these campuses to sustain the rising number of admitted students. The Vice-chancellor further called on the government, philanthropists and private investors to intervene and complete the ongoing projects at the Dormaa, Nsoatre and Kenyasi campuses.

Also present were the Dean of the School of Agriculture and Technology, Dr. Richard Bannor; the Dean of Students, Dr. Dominic Otoo; the SRC executives as well as some staff at the Dormaa campus.

The project is expected to be complete in twenty-four (24) weeks. However, the Mining and Builders Contractors assured to complete it within 20 weeks.

Currently, the students’ population at the Dormaa Campus stands at 888 across two schools: the School of Agriculture and Technology and the School of Geosciences.
