The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Sunyani, Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako on February 3, 2022, inaugurated a nine-member Central Consultative Research Committee (CCRC) chaired by the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adebayo Felix Adekoya to augment research activities of the University for global recognition.
The Committee under the operation of the Centre for Grants, Research and Innovation (CeGRI), shall among other responsibilities, support the Centre in performing its mandate to increase research capacity and output of UENR, which would enable the University to achieve its vision to become a world-class institution for generating and advancing knowledge in energy, sciences and natural resources.
Giving his remarks at the inauguration ceremony held at the University Auditorium, the Vice-Chancellor congratulated the committee members. He mentioned that every university’s growth depends on its research and publications activities, thus the formation of the committee is in merit to UENR. Additionally, he said UENR is passionate about teaching, research and innovations, which would credit the University’s international visibility. Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako charged the committee to be innovative minded and place priority on researchers with technological inventions. Concluding his speech, the Vice-Chancellor called for a consultative approach to perform their task and assured them of management’s support.
The Director of CeGRI, Dr. Peter Sanful gave a progress report on CeGRI’s activities and how the Centre would jointly work with the Committee to make UENR a nucleus of research for national and international consumption, which would leverage the University’s ranking. He also outlined that the Centre’s operation would involve all the schools and departments of the University to reach an all-inclusive research goals.
The Chairman of the Committee, Prof. Adebayo Felix Adekoya on behalf of the Committee, accepted the obligation entrusted to them and thanked Management for the opportunity to serve on the Committee. With their diverse expertise, the Chairman was confident the set target of the Committee would be achieved.
Other members of the Committee are School Research Officers, Dr. Mary Antwi, School of Natural Resources; Dr. Ismaila Emahi, School of Science; Dr. Frederick Otu Larbi, School of Geoscience; Dr. James Owusu-Kwarteng, School of Agriculture and Technology; Dr. Emmanuel Adu-Boahene, School of Arts and Social Sciences; and Dr. Prince Antwi- Agyei, School of Engineering. They were sworn in by the Registrar, Solomon Panford, Esq.,APR.
