The Governing Council of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) has appointed Professor John K.M. Kuwornu as the new Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University effective August 1, 2022. Professor Kuwornu takes over from Professor Adebayo Felix Adekoya who held the high office until the expiration of his tenure on July 31, 2022.

In consonance with Statute 16(10) of the University, the most senior Dean who is of Professorial status is appointed to act when the position of a Pro Vice-Chancellor becomes vacant for any sufficient cause over a period of more than three months. Professor Kuwornu will thus act until the determination of the Council in appointing a substantive Pro Vice-Chancellor, subject to the continued occupancy of his position as Dean.

On Monday, August 1, 2022, a brief handing-over ceremony was held at the Council Chamber to witness the exchange of leadership. Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako congratulated and expressed his appreciation to Prof. Adekoya for his support and cordial working relationship. He called on his continuous expertise to help build UENR. To the new Ag. Pro VC, the VC admonished him to emulate his predecessor’s legacy and do more for the growth of the University.

On his part, the outgone Ag. Pro VC thanked the University Management for entrusting the role for him to exhibit his leadership skills and expertise. He also assured his successor of his availability when called upon to support any course for the office.

In his remarks after the handing over, Prof. Kuwornu was grateful to God and the University Council for the opportunity given him to serve the University in this high capacity. He pledged to work in harmony with the University Management for the common good of the University calling on them for teamwork. “Together, we can move the University from one level to another, that is from glory to glory,’’ he added.

Professor Kuwornu is a Professor in the Department of Agribusiness Management and Consumer Studies at the Dormaa Campus and he is currently the Dean of School of Graduate Studies of the University.
