Registrar’s Offices Welfare Scheme (ROWS) Organises Mentorship Programme for Its Members, University of Energy and Natural Resources - Sunyani

In the advancement of its members’ professional and personal development, the Registrar’s Offices Welfare Scheme (ROWS) on April 9, 2024 held a mentorship training for its members on the theme: “Mentor-Mentee Relationship: Ensuring a Sustainable Process”. 

The Programme which forms part of the Continuous Professional Development of the Scheme sought to improve members’ mentorship skills providing them with the requisite knowledge to achieve a result-oriented mentorship process.

The Chairman of ROWS, Mr. Victor Ferkah remarked that the programme aimed at empowering participants about the importance of mentorship in career development and how to sustain mentorship relationships for achievable goals. He added that ROWS would continue to undertake initiatives beneficial to its members’ welfare and well-being as well as continuous professional development.  

Speaking on behalf of the Registrar, Dr. (Mrs) Georgina Asi Owusu, who is also the Patron of the Scheme, the Head of the Human Resources Division, Mr. Hayford Asare commended the leaders of the Scheme for the initiative to equip members with knowledge in mentorship. He noted such professional development training would go a long way to benefit members’ career growth and work output.

Further in his presentation as a Facilitator, Mr. Asare underscored the importance of mentorship in one’s career path adding that its mentors can help mentees set Professional Development Goals that are SMART; offer encouragement during challenging moments; maintain accountability for set goals; build professional network/connections; and offer constructive feedback to the mentee among others.

Taking a turn to present on the topic “Mentor-Mentee Relationship: Ensuring Sustainable Process”, Prof. (Mrs) Mercy Afua Adutwumwaa Derkyi, Director of Quality Assurance and Academic Planning Directorate (QAAPD) explained that developing and mentoring the next generation of Administrators is paramount to the growth of Ghana and UENR, more significantly in fulfilling SDG 17 and other developmental agenda. Hence ROWS programme on the Mentor-Mentee relationship is to ensure that a sustainable process is in the right direction. She added that Mentoring is an indispensable tool in development as such UENR having a Mentoring Policy demonstrates the University’s readiness to achieve a good mentorship path among its staff and students.

The practical session offered participants to select their Mentors and Mentees and were paired for a continued mentoring process beyond the training programme.
