ALFRED OHENENANA APPIAH, PhD, ChPA, CMC is Deputy Registrar and head of the University Relations Office at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Sunyani. He holds a BA in Publishing Studies, an MBA, and a PhD in Business and Management (Strategic Management and Consulting), all from KNUST, Kumasi, and a certificate in Strategic Leadership and Management from Ibis Singapore.
With over 25 years in higher education administration, Alfred began his career at KNUST in 1999 as a Senior Administrative Assistant, rising to Principal Administrative Assistant. In 2011, he joined Kumasi Technical University (then Kumasi Polytechnic) as Assistant Registrar, where he established the institution’s Publication Unit. He joined UENR in 2012 as Assistant Registrar and has since risen to Deputy Registrar, successfully managing divisions including Academic and Students’ Affairs, University Relations, Human Resources, and the Centre for Distance Education and E-Learning.
Alfred is known for his innovation, resourcefulness, and ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously. His professional interests centre on leadership, quality management, and continually raising standards in teaching and learning within higher education.
His expertise extends beyond his institution. He has served as an external assessor for promotion documents at the University of Cape Coast and Kumasi Technical University, and has facilitated numerous capacity-building programmes across public and private institutions in Ghana.
His leadership has earned him several prominent appointments, including:
– First Vice-Chairman, National Board of Directors, Ghana Co-operative Credit Unions Association (CUA)
– Member, National Board, Ghana Microfinance Institutions Network (GHAMFIN)
– Chairman, CCUP Trustee and Strategic Plan Monitoring Committees, CUA
– Chairman, Brong Ahafo Chapter, Ghana Co-operative Unions Association
– Chairman, UENR Co-operative Credit Union Ltd.
– Chairman, Bono Regional Council of Parent Teacher Associations
– Member, Governing Board, Notre Dame Girls’ Senior High School, Fiapre-Sunyani
Alfred has over 60 publications — including journal articles, memoranda, proposals, and institutional reports — that have directly influenced policy development in higher education. He is a staunch member of the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) and a practicing member of the Chartered Institute of Administrators and Management Consultants, Ghana.
