ALFRED OHENENANA APPIAH, ChPA, is a Deputy Registrar at the University of Energy and Natural Resources, Sunyani. He is an experienced university administrator, with over twenty-two years of experience in the administration of higher education. He brings a lot of innovation, resourcefulness, and tactfulness in the performance of his professional engagements.
He had his basic education at the United Primary, and Tishigu Anglican Primary, Schools in Kokofu and Tamale respectively. He proceeded to the Kalpohin Junior Secondary and then to Ghana Secondary School, all in Tamale where he studied for his Junior Secondary School Leaving Certificate and GCE Ordinary Level examinations respectively. He gained admission to Osei Kyeretwie Secondary School in Kumasi, for his GCE Advanced Level examinations. He obtained his first degree in Publishing Studies at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in 1999, Kumasi and had the opportunity to undertake his mandatory national service at the University Relations Office, KNUST. He was subsequently appointed to Senior Administrative Assistant position at the Registrar’s Office; University Relations Office, KNUST after his national service period. Alfred later pursued graduate studies leading to the award of Master of Business Administration degree at KNUST in 2006.
His over 22 years career as a University Administrator 1999, has seen him rising through the ranks from Senior Administrative Assistant, (a Senior Staff Position) to a Deputy Registrar (Senior Member Position). Mr. Appiah had worked in various schedules and Offices at the KNUST, Kumasi Technical University and currently at University of Energy and Natural Resources, Sunyani. These include but not limited to the University Relations Office, Alumni Relations Office, Publications and Documentations; Academic and Students Affairs, Human Resources Division and currently as Centre Registrar at the Centre for Distance Education and E-learning, UENR. He also assisted the Registrar at the UENR Governing Council Meetings as a Recorder. His schedules at the various offices had accorded him the opportunity to serve as a Member or Secretary to a number of statutory and adhoc committees and boards at University of Energy and Natural Resources, Sunyani, Kumasi Technical University and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi.
Mr. Appiah has acquired extensive multi-cultural experience through various professional engagements. These engagements include giving competitive and invited talks, serving as external assessor to universities promotion assessment, as well as engaging and networking with stakeholders. His passion for mentoring particularly younger professional has driven him to organize and or facilitate several capacity building training programmes in both public and private higher education sectors, as well as in other public and private organizations.
His professional expertise and leadership has been recognized by his peers and currently serves as the Global Alumni General Secretary as well as President to the Sunyani Chapter of KNUST Alumni Association, Chairman, UENR Cooperative Credit Union and Patron to National Union of Baptist Students (NUBS) – UENR Chapter and CHORDS a non-denominational Music Ministry at UENR. He is a staunch member of Ghana University Administrators’ Association (GAUA), and a practicing member of Chartered Institute of Administrators and Management Consultants – Ghana.
Mr. Appiah has attended/participated in several workshops/seminars on operation and management in Higher Tertiary Education with regard to governance and administrative structure, regulatory policies as well as contemporary university administration issues. He has a number of publications; journal articles, memoranda, proposal, reports to his credit.
