Ba-Etilayoo Atinga is the founding Head of the Department of Nursing at the University of Energy and Natural Resources, Ghana. He holds a Doctorate in Nursing from Nelson Mandela University, South Africa; a Master of Philosophy in Human Anatomy and Forensic Science from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana; a Master’s in Education (Teaching in Higher Education) from the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Ghana; a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from KNUST; a Diploma in Nursing from the University of Ghana, Legon; and a Registered General Nursing Certificate from Ghana.

Ba-Etilayoo possesses a rare combination of in-depth theoretical knowledge and clinical expertise, having risen through the ranks in nursing across hospitals, training institutions, and academia. His research spans multiple disciplines, including nursing, human anatomy, and forensic science. In nursing, his focus areas include quality nursing care, patient-centered care, patient safety and satisfaction, critical care nursing, and evidence-based practice. He also has a strong interest in forensic nursing, an emerging and underexplored field in Ghana.

In human anatomy and forensic science, Ba-Etilayoo’s research interests include dermatoglyphics, intelligence studies, osteometry, and facial morphology.

Nationally, he serves as the Financial Secretary of the Ghana Academy of Forensic Scientists (GAFS) and is a founding member of the Anatomical Society of Ghana (ASG). He has published extensively and serves as a reviewer for Elsevier journals.

Ba-Etilayoo is currently working towards establishing the Centre for Nursing Care Quality and Patient Safety (CENQAPS), aimed at enhancing healthcare quality and patient safety in Ghana and across West Africa.
