Dr Dorice Berkoh is a lecturer at the Department of Medical Laboratory Science. Her most recent work was on the Effect of Vegetable Oil Consumption on Glycaemic Control in Type 2 Diabetes where she examined the impact of the Consumption of three locally selected oils (palm, coconut and groundnut) in combination with Metformin therapy on the fasting blood glucose, lipid profile and haematological indices of Type 2 Diabetics in the Bono Region of Ghana. She has also supervised a number of undergraduate research projects exploring the phytochemical and antioxidant properties of selected plant extracts ( Newbouldia laevis , Pentadesma Butyracea, Bridelia micrantha (Hochst.) Baill) and their potential wound healing activities in healthy and diabetic experimental animals. She is currently the principal investigator of NutriDiaM Research group, a non-government, not-for -profit organisation which seeks to provide through research healthy and cost-effective ways of managing diabetes and Metabolic Syndrome using the local Ghanaian diet while adding her voice to raising awareness about diabetes, metabolic syndrome and associated complications.
