Agribusiness Management and Consumer Studies
Helena Oppong-Kyeremeh, PhD is a Senior Lecturer in Agribusiness Management at the Department of Agribusiness Management and Consumer Studies at the University of Energy and Natural Resources, Ghana. She acquired her Bachelor’s degree at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) and her postgraduate education at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). Additionally, she is a trained agricultural commodity value chain analyst from The University of Queensland (UQ), Australia and a Monitoring and Evaluation expert trained from Wageningen University and Research (WUR), The Netherlands. She is a dedicated professional in the field of agribusiness.
Dr. Helena has trained and mentored numerous postgraduate and undergraduate students in agribusiness research. Additionally, she has contributed to over 15 boards and committees in the university. Given her leadership and managerial abilities, she has held substantial administrative positions such as Industrial Attachment Coordinator, Top-Up Coordinator, Examination Coordinator, Postgraduate Coordinator and the Head of Department. She has a significant research output with over 40 publications in high-impact peer-reviewed journals indexed in Scopus and Web of Science (WoS), mainly in Africa, Asia and Europe, focusing on agribusiness branding, agribusiness and food marketing, agribusiness supply and value chains.
She has participated in several projects to advance the development of agribusiness programmes. At the university, she is currently a technical team member for the Kosmos Innovations Centre’s Project on Agripreneurship for the youth. As a result, over 400 youth have been trained in agripreneurship, while approximately USD 75,000 in funding has been secured for student and graduate teams to commence their agribusiness start-ups. In addition, she is an integral part of the Pofecq project, Activate project, and Agrecofarm project for agroecology and food systems, among others. Moreover, Dr Helena Oppong-Kyeremeh was part of the team that trained over 1,800 youth in agribusiness across the country under the Okuafo Pa Project, through which the Okuafo Pa Agribusiness Centre was established. She is a consultant and her consulting work extends to diverse international organisations, including her present role as a consultant and a business development coach for GIZ on crucial agricultural value chains.
Presently, she is the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of the Ghana Society of Agribusiness Scientists (GSAS), the first professional society dedicated to agribusiness research and academia. Her current research focuses on Branding of Agribusinesses and Agribusiness Products, Customer Relationship Management, Agribusiness Marketing and Value Chains, and Consumer Studies.
