Fisheries and Water Resources
Dr. Peter Sanful serves as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Fisheries and Water Resources. He holds a joint PhD in Limnology from the University of Waterloo in Canada and KNUST in Ghana. His expertise lies in limnology and aquatic science, with a significant focus on exploring fundamental processes in aquatic ecosystems, including aquatic productivity, biogeochemical processes, and water quality. His research also delves into ecosystem dynamics within wetland agroecosystems, as well as nature-based solutions for wastewater treatment and sustainable aquatic resources management, particularly considering the pressing challenges posed by the triple planetary crisis of climate change, pollution, and biodiversity decline.
Dr. Sanful actively supervises several master’s and PhD candidates, significantly contributing to the academic community with a substantial portfolio of publications in his specialized field. His reputation as a reviewer extends to several prestigious journals and research proposals, including those submitted to the International Foundation for Science (IFS) and the National Research and Innovation Office of Hungary. Beyond his scholarly contributions, Dr. Sanful brings a wealth of experience in university administration and leadership. He currently heads the Centre for Grants, Research and Innovation (CeGRI), where he plays a pivotal role in implementing the university’s research policies and agenda. His responsibilities include overseeing research planning, development initiatives, capacity building, grants management, and associated support services.
Dr. Sanful has been the recipient of multiple international awards and research grants and has developed substantial project management expertise, having led various high-profile international multidisciplinary research projects. His extensive engagement in international collaborations is evidenced by his involvement in several grants, fellowships, and guest positions at various EU institutions. Furthermore, he has successfully coordinated several Erasmus + exchanges for both staff and students, both incoming and outgoing. Dr Sanful is innovative, results-oriented, quality-oriented, hardworking and a good team player.
