The University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) has taken a major step toward improving student learning spaces with the commissioning of a newly refurbished 24/7 reading room at University Hall II on Thursday, August 28, 2025.

At the ceremony, the Hall Master of University Hall II, Ing. Dr. Edward Awafo described the facility as a “home from home” and a “symbolic and humble starting point” for enhancing academic life. He expressed gratitude to the Student Representative Council (SRC), hall leadership, the Dean of Students, the University Librarian, and the project team for their instrumental roles in realizing the vision. Though the room can seat only about 30 students, he emphasized that it belongs to the student body and urged them to protect and make good use of it.
The SRC President, Mr. Andrew Danso hailed the facility as a milestone achievement that will undoubtedly enhance the academic experience of students. He acknowledged the 2023–2024 administration for initiating the project, his administration for funding it to completion, and the Dean of Students’ office and hall management for providing oversight. Mr. Danso encouraged students to embrace the facility as a space that fosters intellectual curiosity and collaboration.

Meanwhile, Dr. Miriam Linda Akeriwe, University Librarian, commended students for their resilience in creating their own study spaces but underscored the urgent need for the completion and furnishing of the main university library, which she called the “cornerstone” of effective learning. She urged students to continue advocating for its readiness, noting that a fully functional library would make studies significantly more effective.
Adding his voice, Arc. Lawrence Puntaanah Tibiru, Head of the Estate Organisation, praised the completed project as a “pedestal for future working models” and thanked all stakeholders, including the Dean of Students, management, contractors, and suppliers. He challenged the incoming SRC executives to pursue fresh and innovative initiatives, assuring them of management’s commitment to collaborate in delivering further improvements to campus life.
The commissioning was attended by the Dean of Students, Prof. Simon Abugre, staff from the Office of the Dean of Students, representatives from the University Library, the Works and Physical Development Directorate, hall tutors, administrators of Hall II, and past and present SRC executives.
