UENR Forges Partnerships at International Conferences for Sustainable Growth, University of Energy and Natural Resources - Sunyani

As part of the efforts of the International Relations Office to promote visibility and to attract world scholars to the University, the Dean of the International Relations Office, Professor Amos T. Kabo-Bah through interactions with the leadership of the LDN flagship for the past two weeks has secured the recruitment of world-renowned Professor, Gilberto Camara to support in the teaching of the postgraduate programme for the LDN. The professor would be bringing forth his vast experiences in Computer Programming, software development, advances in space science development and advances in research to the benefit of the first cohort of the LDN Programme. The modules he would be handling would further be developed as Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) for the benefit of the University.

During the 3rd Digital Belt and Road Conference held in Beijing from September 4th to 6th, 2023, Professor Amos T. Kabo-Bah, took an active role and delivered a keynote address, shedding light on the educational opportunities in Africa, particularly in addressing environmental challenges. He also spotlighted the postgraduate programme offered by the School of Mines and Built Environment.

On September 5th, as the focal person for DBAR ICoE Ghana hosted by the School of Sciences, the Dean presented an overview of the University and the School, including the recent inaugural conference featuring a dedicated session on Big Data Analytics, aligning with the ICoE’s mission.

The University of Energy and Natural Resources was strongly highlighted during this conference by Prof Massimo Menenti as one of the emerging Universities with a strong focus on building capacity in the use of Big Data for supporting and reporting on SDGs.

The Dean appealed for support for the Center, in staff capacity development for Big Data related to SDGs and infrastructure support to facilitate the Center’s operations.

In a related development, the Dean participated in the 3rd Forum for Sustainable Development Goals (FBAS) in Beijing held on September 6 to 8, 2023. His presentation addressed the issue of Land Degradation Neutrality, underlining the importance of collaboration for capacity development. He urged international organizations to partner with the University through scholarships, faculty exchange programmes, and the organization of webinars and short training sessions in emerging Big Data tools and software. These collaborations would be essential in sustaining the LDN postgraduate programmes, to benefit not only the sub-region but also to Africa’s advancement as a whole.
