MEMBERS OF FORENSIC SOCIETY MAKE UENR PROUD AT THE 2021 PAN AFRICAN UNIVERSITIES DEBATE CHAMPIONSHIP

The Forensic Society of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Sunyani, has placed the University on the international front by winning three awards at the 13th Edition of the Pan African Universities Debate Championship, 2021 held in Gaborone. This has been achieved after the society made it to the finals on two attempts but could not win in 2019 and 2020.

The UENR Forensic society represented the University with six (6) teams in the debate stream and seven (7) individuals in the public speaking category. After a weeklong rigorous competition with other universities across the continent, Miss Zoe Lois Poku, a BSc. Mechanical Engineering student won the Best Public Speaker in Africa. Meanwhile, the UENR debate team made it to the semi-finals with Pearl Kwadade, BSc. Hospitality Management Student ranked as the 9th Best Speaker in Africa and received the Best Female Speaker award in the debate stream. In addition, Miss Afia Foriwaa Yeboah, BSc. Hospitality Management Student emerged as the Best Female Public Speaking Judge in the continent amongst all the Judges at each stage of the competition.

The Pan African Universities Debate Championship is the biggest annual debating event in Africa, hosting universities from all around the continent to discuss topical issues of international interest. Amazing speakers across Africa joined the tournament online under the theme:” Channeling the roots of African Debate.”
