Ing. Nana Osei Bonsu Ackerson (PhD, PE-GhIE), is a Senior Lecturer and currently the Acting Head of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Sunyani, Ghana. He is a Professional Engineer with the Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE).
Dr Ackerson obtained his PhD in Environmental Engineering and MS in Civil Engineering from The University of Akron, Akron, Ohio, USA. He also holds an MSc in Environmental Resources Management and a BSc in Agricultural Engineering from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana. His research focuses on water and wastewater treatment, disinfection by-product formation, emerging contaminants, soil quality, and sustainable water and sanitation systems.
At UENR, he teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses in environmental engineering, including Water and Wastewater Treatment, Engineering Chemistry, Air Pollution Control, Environmental Sampling and Analysis, Environmental Impact Assessment, and Basic Mechanics. He has supervised numerous undergraduate, master’s, and PhD research projects and continues to mentor young researchers in environmental engineering.
Dr Ackerson has published in reputable international journals. His research has contributed significantly to understanding emerging contaminants in water systems, sanitation workers’ health and safety, and environmental sustainability in Ghana and beyond. In addition to teaching and research, he actively contributes to academic leadership, postgraduate education, and professional engineering practice through several university and professional committees. He is open to both local and international research collaborations in water quality engineering, soil remediation, and WASH systems.
