Biography
Engr. Dr Nana Kwame Obeng-Ahenkora (PhD, PE IET-GH, MGIOC) is a Lecturer in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering with over six years of experience in teaching, research, and academic mentoring in civil engineering and the built environment. He holds a PhD in Construction Management from Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED). He also holds an M.Phil. in Construction Technology from the University of Education, Winneba – Kumasi Campus and a B.Sc. in Quantity Surveying and Construction Economics from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
Dr. Obeng-Ahenkora’s expertise spans construction management, quantity surveying, construction procurement systems, construction economics, project management, sustainable construction materials, and infrastructure development. His PhD research focused on “A Framework for Assessing Procurement Methods of Materials for Building Projects in Ghana,” which contributes to improving procurement decision-making, efficiency, and sustainability in the Ghanaian construction industry.
His research interests include procurement systems, sustainable construction materials, construction material pricing, occupational health and safety, and climate-responsive infrastructure. His most cited work explores recycled plastic waste as an alternative binder in paving block production, and he has also studied glass bottle waste powder as a partial cement replacement for sustainable waste management in concrete. His pricing research covers the major determinants of building material price increases, price trends from 2011 to 2016, differential pricing of concrete products, and the factors influencing pricing decisions in Ghana. More recent work addresses the selection of procurement methods for construction materials in Ghana. He has also contributed to studies on occupational health and safety on construction sites, harvested rainwater quality, and local climate change projections for the Black Volta Basin. His work applies Principal Component Analysis (PCA), correlation analysis, and structural modelling to construction management problems.
Dr. Obeng-Ahenkora is proficient in SPSS, SmartPLS, NVivo, Microsoft Project, AutoCAD, Revit, and Microsoft Office Suite, with experience in statistical analysis, structural equation modelling, project planning, procurement modelling, and construction management applications. He is a Professional Engineer with the Institution of Engineering and Technology, Ghana (IET-GH) and a Corporate Member of the Ghana Institute of Construction.
