PROFILE DATA
Edward Yaw Kander, born on August 3, 1972, in Jasikan-Buem, Oti Region, Ghana, he is an urban forestry specialist with expertise in environmental governance and climate-resilient urban ecosystems. A devoted Christian, fluent in English, Asante Twi, and Ewe, he resides in Sunyani, Ghana, at UENR/B4/ANNEX. He is currently serving as a Principal Technician (Project Coordinator and Practical Training – Department of Forest Science) at UENR, Edward has risen through the ranks from Senior Estate Assistant to Principal Assistant Curator. His work spans urban forestry, landscaping, plant nursery engineering, and agroforestry consultancy. He has contributed significantly to urban greening, ecosystem conservation, and sustainability projects in Ghana, leading tree planting initiatives, nursery development, and climate adaptation efforts.
Edward is a finalist for an MPhil in Social Forestry and Environmental Governance at UENR, where he is researching the “Spatial Distribution and Residents’ Perception of Urban Forests in Sunyani Municipality.” He holds a B.Ed. in Agriculture from the University of Education, Winneba – Mampong, with a focus on promoting exotic tree species for charcoal production. Additionally, he has a General Certificate of Agriculture from Kwadaso Agricultural College and specialized training in Bamboo Cultivation Technology from the China National Bamboo Research Centre.
His technical skills include ecosystem management, landscaping, nursery engineering, agroforestry consultancy, and climate-resilient urban ecosystem planning. Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, and SPSS,
Beyond academia, Edward actively engages in professional and community-based initiatives. He is a member of the Senior Staff Association of Public Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG), Ghana Institute of Horticulturists (GHIH), and Mango Traders Association of Ghana. His advocacy extends to urban forestry and environmental sustainability, serving as Chairman of the Jasikan Traditional Council’s Environment & Urban Forestry Committee and a key member of the Greening UENR Fraternity.
