Biography
Dr Peter Sanful is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Fisheries and Water Resources at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR). He holds a joint PhD in Limnology from the University of Waterloo (Canada) and KNUST (Ghana). His research examines lake ecosystems, climate change impacts, zooplankton ecology, nutrient cycling, pollution dynamics, water quality, treatment wetlands and rice agroecosystem ecohydrology, with a strong focus on sustainable and nature‑based solutions for aquatic resources management. His work extends beyond ecological systems to the study of resource‑driven conflict dynamics, exploring how environmental stressors and resource scarcity shape social tensions and community vulnerability. Dr Sanful coordinated a major international research consortium on Lake Bosumtwi, Ghana, involving partners from Denmark, Germany, and Ghana, and has extensive experience leading and participating in multinational teams and interdisciplinary projects. He supervises master’s and doctoral students and has an established publication record in aquatic science. Dr Sanful serves as a reviewer for several reputable journals and evaluates research proposals for organisations such as the International Foundation for Science (IFS) and Hungary’s National Research and Innovation Office. Dr Sanful is the former Head of the Centre for Grants, Research and Innovation (CeGRI), where he contributed to strengthening UENR’s research development, grants management, and institutional capacity. His international engagement includes fellowships, guest scientist positions at EU institutions, and the successful coordination of Erasmus+ exchanges for staff and students.
