The Adventist Senior High School at Bantama in the Ashanti Region of Ghana marked its 40th anniversary with a memorable ceremony attended by alumni, current students, staff, parents, and notable guests. The event’s Special Guest of Honour, Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako, Vice Chancellor of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), delivered a heartfelt address, celebrating the school’s legacy of faith-based education and commitment to Truth in Excellence.”
In his speech, Prof. Asare-Bediako praised the impact of Adventist education, sharing his personal journey as an alumnus of an Adventist institution, which he credited for his academic and professional achievements. “I am a proud product of Adventist education,” he remarked, emphasizing how the school’s blend of academic rigor and moral guidance has laid a strong foundation for generations of students.
The Vice Chancellor applauded the school’s founders, who, four decades ago, established Adventist SHS as a nurturing environment focused on cultivating integrity, knowledge, and moral courage. He highlighted the anniversary theme, “Truth in Excellence: 40 Years Empowering Minds through Adventist Education”, as a testament to the school’s role in shaping students who excel not only academically but also in character.
Prof. Asare-Bediako acknowledged the invaluable contributions of the teaching staff, past and present, who he said have “changed countless lives” through their dedication and selflessness. He commended the educators for embracing their profession as a calling, shaping young minds with love, wisdom, and commitment. Speaking directly to students, he encouraged them to carry forward the values they’ve learned, reminding them that true excellence is rooted in authenticity, integrity, and service. He cited Proverbs 9:10, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge,” as a guiding principle for the young graduates.
Prof. Asare-Bediako also took the opportunity to introduce UENR, highlighting its competitive programs in engineering, energy, natural resources, and other fields that could be a natural continuation for Adventist SHS graduates. He extended a warm invitation to students and parents, encouraging them to consider UENR as they plan for the future.
