The University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) has formally admitted 8,144 fresh students at its 14th Matriculation Ceremony, held virtually on Saturday, February 28, 2026. This number is the largest intake since the university’s inception.
Delivering his address, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako, described matriculation as “a covenant of hope, responsibility, and promise.” He welcomed the new students, whom he affectionately called the “14th pillar generation,” and encouraged them to embrace both the opportunities and obligations that define university life.
Providing a detailed breakdown of admissions, the Vice-Chancellor disclosed that out of the 8,144 students admitted, 4,842 are males and 3,302 are females. At the undergraduate level, 7,660 students were enrolled, comprising 4,451 males and 3,209 females. At the postgraduate level, 447 students were admitted; 385 males and 92 females.
He noted that these figures represent more than statistics, describing them as clear evidence of the university’s growing reputation as a centre of excellence, innovation, and leadership in higher education and the confidence stakeholders continue to place in its vision and mission.
Prof. Asare-Bediako assured the new cohort that management continues to strengthen infrastructure, expand academic programmes, and enhance student support systems to accommodate rising enrolment. He highlighted improvements in digital learning platforms, library resources, mentorship initiatives, and student engagement structures designed to promote holistic development.
Charging the matriculants, he emphasised the importance of academic excellence, discipline, and integrity. He reminded them that the University maintains zero tolerance for academic dishonesty, including examination malpractice and plagiarism, urging them to uphold the values and regulations of the institution at all times.
The Vice-Chancellor further encouraged students to uphold moral standards and embrace godliness, noting that character and faith serve as guiding principles in navigating the freedoms and responsibilities of university life.
“Be pillars of excellence, pillars of integrity, pillars of morality and pillars of godliness,” he charged, expressing confidence that the cohort would contribute meaningfully to national and global development.

On behalf of the matriculating class, Ms. Emelda Arthur, a Level 100 student pursuing BSc. Resource Enterprise and Entrepreneurship, expressed appreciation to University Management and families for their support. She acknowledged the expectations placed on students by parents, the Government of Ghana and the University, assuring stakeholders that the class is committed to academic excellence, discipline and adherence to institutional regulations.
The matriculation activities concluded with a Thanksgiving Service held on Sunday, March 1, 2026, bringing together students, staff and members of the University Community in prayer and reflection as the new cohort formally commenced their academic journey.
