SRC Launches Week Celebration to Promote Youth Empowerment and National Transformation

The Student Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) has officially launched the 2026 SRC Week Celebration under the theme, “Youthful Mind, One Vision: Empowering Youth for Sustainable National Transformation.” The launch ceremony was held on Monday, 20th July 2026, at the RCEE Auditorium.

Addressing the gathering, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako, congratulated the SRC for its collaborative and development-oriented leadership style and encouraged students to participate fully in the week’s seminars, forums, and social activities. He emphasized that such engagements contribute to the development of leadership skills, teamwork, and other essential competencies beyond the classroom.

Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects aimed at improving the student experience on campus, including the completion of the university entrance, library building, road network improvements, and other campus facilities. He noted that some projects have been funded through Internally Generated Funds (IGF) and students’ contributions, and commended the SRC for investing in initiatives that will benefit current and future students.

The Dean of Students’ Affairs, Prof. Simon Abugre, encouraged students to actively participate in the activities lined up for the celebration while maintaining discipline and responsible conduct. He particularly urged students to uphold the values of UENR during the public float, describing it as an opportunity for the wider community to appreciate the character and identity of the University.

Launching the celebration, SRC President, Mr. Abdulai Adjei Zakaria, introduced the philosophy of “Vismoja,” meaning “one people with one vision,” as a symbol of unity among students from diverse backgrounds. He outlined activities planned for the week, including cultural nights, sports competitions, the UENR NSMQ competition, masquerade street carnival, and Artist Night. He also unveiled the official SRC cloth as a symbol of student identity and togetherness.

Delivering a motivational address, Lecturer, Department of Forest Science, Dr. Anthony Baidoo inspired students with lessons on resilience, persistence, and purposeful living. Drawing from historical examples and the growth of UENR, he encouraged students to remain committed to their dreams, embrace entrepreneurial opportunities, and become active contributors to national development.

The Bono Regional Director of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) and the Sunyani East Municipal Chief Executive, together with some university officials, and staff graced the occasion.
