Students of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) have been encouraged to develop entrepreneurial mindsets, build meaningful networks, and maintain positive personal reputations as key ingredients for future success. The call was made during the 2026 SRC Week launch on Monday, 20th July 2026, at the RCEE Auditorium.
Speaking at the event, the Bono Regional Director of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Mr. Omar Copson challenged students to shift their mindset from seeking only traditional employment opportunities to becoming creators of jobs and solutions. He emphasised that wealth creation begins with identifying problems and developing innovative solutions to address them. He encouraged students to explore entrepreneurship opportunities while in school and take advantage of available support systems, including government programmes that provide funding for young entrepreneurs.
Mr. Copson cautioned students against spending excessive time on unproductive online activities and urged them to use digital platforms to discover opportunities, develop skills, and build businesses. He cited practical campus-based ventures as examples of opportunities students could explore with minimal capital. He further encouraged students to adopt long-term visions, start small, and remain committed to their goals, noting that entrepreneurship requires discipline, persistence, and the willingness to take action.
Adding a voice, the Municipal Chief Executive, Sunyani East, Hon. Vincent Antwi Agyei highlighted the importance of networking and maintaining a good reputation throughout one’s academic and professional journey. He noted that while academic qualifications are important, strong relationships and positive recommendations from others often play a significant role in opening professional opportunities. He encouraged students to build meaningful connections with colleagues and mentors while in school.
Hon. Antwi Agyei also cautioned students to be mindful of their conduct, stressing that personal character and reputation can influence future opportunities. He urged them to uphold discipline and conduct themselves in ways that reflect positively on themselves and the University.
The MCE reaffirmed government’s commitment to supporting the development of UENR and announced the donation of 10 street lights to the SRC to enhance safety on campus. He also highlighted ongoing development initiatives within the municipality, including the establishment of a 24-hour model market.
The engagement formed part of activities marking the 2026 SRC Week Celebration, which seeks to promote student leadership, empowerment, innovation, and social responsibility among members of the UENR community.
