In a remarkable testament to the power of transformative education, a student at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Ms. Diana Azusiyine Adabem shares an inspiring journey that has turned skepticism into passion, and uncertainty into a sense of purpose.

Embarking on a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering, Ms. Diana Azusiyine Adabem, who initially entered the programme without much enthusiasm, has discovered a newfound zeal for the field, challenging common misconceptions and highlighting the potential impact of agricultural engineering on global issues.

Expressing initial reluctance, she revealed, “Honestly, I started studying Agricultural Engineering with a pessimistic mindset. I just wanted to be in school because my colleagues were in school too. I came without passion because honestly, I was denied the programme I wanted to study in the first place.”

However, a turning point occurred during a seminar where department lecturers engaged with students, opening the eyes of this aspiring agricultural engineer to the vast opportunities within the discipline. The realization that Agricultural Engineering is not merely about farming, but a pathway to changing the world through knowledge, sparked a significant shift in mindset.

Through engaging lectures, interactive workshops, and insightful discussions at UENR, Ms. Diana Azusiyine Adabem gained a profound understanding of the challenges facing modern agriculture and the innovative solutions that engineering can offer. The supportive and nurturing academic environment played a pivotal role in shaping the student’s academic pursuits and fostering intellectual curiosity.

The journey reached new heights when the student participated in an exchange programme at Universidad de Jaen, Spain, broadening horizons and deepening the commitment to making a positive impact on the world.

Addressing fellow students pursuing a BSc in Agricultural Engineering at UENR, the student offered motivation: “Embrace every opportunity that comes your way, for it is through challenges that we grow, and it is through perseverance that we succeed. As future agricultural engineers, we hold the key to addressing some of the most pressing issues of our time, from food security to sustainable resource management.”

Ms. Diana Azusiyine Adabem who now wholeheartedly embraces agricultural engineering, encourages peers to approach studies with passion, dedication, and a commitment to making a positive impact on the world.

As the student looks towards the future with optimism and resolve, it is evident that the knowledge and experiences gained at UENR will empower them to be a catalyst for positive change in the field of agriculture.
