The Head of the Department of Computer Science and Informatics of UENR has been appointed to the Electoral Commission of Ghana. On Monday, March 20, 2023, Dr. Peter Appiahene was sworn in with two other members by the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House.
President Akuffo Addo in his speech advised them to use caution in the discharge of their duties. He added that their work will be exposed to intense review by the broader public; however, they should not be scared; rather, “let this expectation of the Ghanaian people spur you onto great heights and above all the works of the will of the Ghanaian people is upheld,” the President said.
After the swearing-in, Dr. Appiahene, speaking on behalf of the members, declared that they are prepared to deliver and strengthen Ghana’s democracy.
“We want to say that we are poised and better prepared to deliver and contribute to the development of our democracy, especially in this digital era, and that we are conscious of the enormous duties and tasks that go along with it. We will therefore bring our expertise and background to support the work of the Commission so that Ghana’s democracy will continue to be the first in the sub-region,” he added.
The other two members are Salima Ahmed Tijani and Rev Akua Ofori Boateng.
