A researcher from the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Ms. Sylvia Adipah, has won the Excellent Youth Oral Presentation Award at the 6th International Forum on Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals (FBAS 2026), held in Beijing, China, from September 6–8, 2026.

The award was presented during the closing ceremony of the international forum in recognition of Ms. Adipah’s oral presentation delivered during the technical presentation sessions on September 8.

The award, conferred by the FBAS Organising Committee, recognises outstanding young researchers whose work contributes to the application of big data and digital technologies in advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Ms. Adipah’s award-winning presentation, titled “Promoting Land Degradation Neutrality via Anaerobic Digestion for Resilient Agriculture,” explored innovative approaches to addressing land degradation and promoting resilient agricultural systems.

Her recognition highlights the relevance of research-driven and technology-enabled approaches to addressing global environmental and agricultural challenges.

Ms. Adipah expressed gratitude to UENR Management and the Centre for Climate Change and Gender Studies (3CGS) for their continued support.

She also expressed special appreciation to the Head of the Centre, Professor Mercy Afua Adutwumwaa Derkyi, for her support and encouragement throughout her research.

FBAS is hosted annually by the International Research Center of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals (CBAS) under the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The forum brings together scientists, policymakers and practitioners from more than 100 countries to explore the application of big data and digital technologies to sustainable development.

The 2026 edition, held under the theme “Inheriting the Future: Innovations in Digital Intelligence for Global Sustainable Development,” attracted nearly 3,500 participants to Beijing to examine how digital technologies and artificial intelligence can accelerate progress towards the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Ms. Adipah’s recognition places her among young researchers internationally acknowledged for excellence in research communication and contributes to UENR’s growing visibility in Earth observation, sustainability science and climate-resilient agriculture research.

The achievement further underscores the University’s commitment to research and innovation that addresses global sustainability challenges and contributes to the achievement of the SDGs.
