A Level 200 student of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Benewaa Kusi, has brought honour to the University and Ghana after winning two gold medals at the 2026 Final Professional Skills Championship held in Russia.
Benewaa, a student of the Department of Computer Science and Informatics, represented Ghana and UENR at the international competition, where she participated in the Cyberimmune Autonomy Tournament. This emerging technological field integrates Artificial Intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, and embedded systems. The Cyberimmune Autonomy Tournament focuses on the development of intelligent systems capable of detecting, responding to, and defending themselves against cyber threats. The technology seeks to enhance the security of autonomous systems, including self-driving vehicles and robotic platforms, by enabling them to withstand potential cyberattacks.
The championship, which took place from May 26 to June 1, 2026, attracted talented participants from different parts of the world to demonstrate their technical abilities, creativity, innovation, and problem-solving skills across various professional disciplines.
Through exceptional technical competence, innovation, and dedication, Benewaa emerged as one of the top performers in the competition, securing two gold medals: one in the International Category and another in the Team Category.
Her success at the global competition reflects her growing expertise in technology and innovation and demonstrates the capacity of young Ghanaian talents to compete and excel on international platforms. The achievement has further motivated her to continue developing her skills and contributing to advancements in emerging technologies.
Following her accomplishment, Benewaa paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Management, and staff of UENR, where she presented her medals and shared her experience from the international championship.

The Vice-Chancellor of UENR, Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako, on behalf of the University Council, Management, staff, and students, congratulated Benewaa on her outstanding achievement, describing it as a reflection of the exceptional talents being developed at the University.
He noted that students with unique abilities, particularly in science, technology, and innovation, must be identified, supported, and nurtured to contribute meaningfully to national development. He emphasised that technological advancement requires institutions to deliberately invest in developing individuals with exceptional skills.
Prof. Asare-Bediako assured Benewaa of the University’s commitment to supporting her continued growth and encouraged faculty members to provide the necessary mentorship and guidance to enable students with outstanding potential to maximise their abilities.
He further called for the establishment of a structured system within the University to identify, develop, and support exceptional talents, noting that nurturing such individuals would enhance UENR’s uniqueness and strengthen its contribution to national and global technological advancement.
The Vice-Chancellor also acknowledged the contribution of lecturers, the Head of Department, professors, and staff of the Department of Computer Science and Informatics for their role in equipping students with the knowledge and skills required to compete globally.
Despite existing institutional challenges, particularly regarding infrastructure, Prof. Asare-Bediako expressed confidence in the commitment of UENR’s lecturers, staff, and students to advance the University’s position as a leading institution in science, technology, and innovation.
Benewaa Kusi’s remarkable achievement adds to UENR’s growing profile in technological innovation and highlights the University’s commitment to producing graduates equipped with the skills, creativity, and expertise required to address contemporary challenges and compete successfully on the global stage.
