VICE-CHANCELLOR COMMENDS UENR STUDENT WHO RETURNED A FOUND MONEY WORTH GH¢10,000 TO THE OWNER

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Energy and Natural Resources, Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako has commended Mr Frank Atta, a level 200 student pursuing a diploma in Information Technology at the University for his display of honesty and integrity in returning an amount of Ten Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢10,000.00) found by him to its rightful owner.

Frank and his friend Randall Boakye on May 17, 2023, picked the money when they stumbled upon several papers and a diary on their way from a part-time job that they have been engaged. Frank and his friend immediately took it upon themselves to track down the rightful owner by sending it to a Media House in Sunyani, Sompa FM, for an announcement to be made to get the rightful owner.

The Head of the University Relations Office, Mr. Alfred Ohenenana Appiah led Frank to pay a courtesy call to Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako at his office. The Vice-Chancellor commended him for his honest act and said that such gestures are rare in modern society, hence Frank’s gesture is laudable and needs to be appreciated. He further applauded this singular attitude as a reflection of the kind of graduates the University seeks to produce. He advised him to keep up with such honest behaviour to earn him many blessings. The Vice-Chancellor in his commendation assured to facilitate a scholarship opportunity for Frank for his bachelor’s degree studies upon completion of the diploma programme

Recounting the incident, Frank shared, “We couldn’t believe our eyes when we found the envelope filled with cash. But we knew the right thing to do was to return it to its rightful owner even though we did not have money on us and were trekking back home after work. We imagined how distraught the person might have been, losing such a significant sum of money. It was a matter of integrity as well as helping the owner find the lost items and money because I have a strong believe base on my upbringing not to take what does not belong to me”.

Apparently, the owner of the money, a Reverend Minister of the Assemblies of God Church in Sunyani who was hallucinating about the missing money was brimmed with joy after getting back his money and he gracefully appreciated the two gentlemen with an amount of money.

The entire university community gladly celebrate Frank Atta for his patriotic gesture.
