UENR to Get Modern Astroturf by Middle Belt Development Authority to Boost Sports on Campus, University of Energy and Natural Resources - Sunyani

In a significant development for sports enthusiasts at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), the Middle Belt Development Authority through the Ghana Sports Authority has announced plans to install a state-of-the-art Astroturf on the university campus. This initiative aims to enhance sporting facilities and promote a culture of physical activity among students and the University community.

The decision to provide UENR with a modern artificial Astroturf showcases the Middle Belt Development Authority’s commitment to investing in infrastructure that fosters both academic and extracurricular excellence. The Astroturf, known for its durability and versatility, will offer a premier playing surface for various sports activities, including football, field hockey, and rugby.

Breaking the news to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako, the Bono Regional Director of Ghana Sports Authority, Mr. Foster Kwame Opoku Boakye highlighted the importance of creating conducive environments for students to engage in sports and recreational activities. He emphasized the positive impact of sports on physical and mental well-being, as well as its role in nurturing leadership and teamwork skills among students.

Mr. Boakye added that the installation of the Astroturf at UENR is part of a broader initiative to upgrade sporting facilities across the region. He urged the University to support and equip the sports directorate and sportsmen on campus to enhance their visibility for the University.

The Vice-Chancellor of UENR on behalf of the University expressed gratitude to the Ghana Sports Authority and the Middle Belt Development Authority and welcomed the prospect of having a modern sports facility on campus. He emphasized the university’s commitment to promoting a holistic educational experience that encompasses both academic and extracurricular pursuits. He led the team to inspect the proposed site for the project.

At the meeting was the Ag. Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John K. M. Kuwornu; Director for the University Sports and Recreation Directorate, Mr. Ebenezer Kingsley Armoh and the Director of Works and Physical Development, Mr. Diyaudeen Mahmud Khalid.
