MEMBERS OF THE REGISTRAR’S OFFICES WELFARE SCHEME (ROWS) ATTEND A TWO-DAY WORKSHOP AS PART OF ITS ANNUAL ACTIVITIES

Within the framework of the Registrar’s Offices Welfare Scheme (ROWS), UENR, a Capacity Building Workshop has been organised for its members. The two-day training formed part of the Scheme’s annual activities to enhance the skills and knowledge of its members in their career path and personal life.

The Chairman of ROWS, Mr. David Twumasi-Ankrah addressing the participants on the first day of the training at Tyco City Hotel in Sunyani, said it is the mandate of the Scheme to support staff wellbeing and build them to be better career men and women in administration. He added that marriages, finances, security among others are salient issues that cannot be underrated in the course of their active years in service. He mentioned that the workshop seeks to discuss these topical areas in the lives of members of ROWS.  According to him, when these personal issues are not addressed properly it can affect staff productivity at work. He was optimistic the training would impact members’ lives positively.

In his presentation on the topic: “Becoming a World-Class University Administrator,” the Acting Head of Academic and Students’ Affairs, Mr. George K. Anane, indicated that to be a world-class University Administrator, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills; collaboration and communication are key elements that should be held in high esteem. Mr. Anane further noted that it is prudent for Administrators to improve themselves to fit in the vision of the University to become a world-class academic institution of excellence. For this to be achieved, He believes University Administrators ought to be innovative, knowledge-driven, take advantage of numerous opportunities and risk especially in COVID-19 era as well as acquire good writing skills. He urged the participants to research and be abreast with contemporary issues in university administration.

The event ended with training on security and fire-related issues at the Third Infantry Battalion (3BN), Sunyani. Educating the participants on Personal and Office Security, a Warrant Officer Class One (WO1) at the 3BN, Robert Dodoo said that though security issues in the country have been relatively calm, there are some recent indicators such as murder, armed robbery and kidnapping that citizens ought to be cautious about. He encouraged the participants to be vigilant and smart in terms of their personal and work security. WO1 Dodoo urged everyone to make use of the Ghana Police Emergency Number, 191 and 18555 in times of any security threat.

Additionally, the Assistant Station Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service, Bono Regional Office, Mr. Emmanuel Kyeremeh schooled the staff on How Fire Occurs; Methods of Extinguishing Fire; Causes of Office and Domestic Fire; Preventive Measures.

Other topics presented at the workshop were the University Statutes in Perspective; Land Acquisition by Jonathan Odartey Esq.; Legal Viewpoint on Marriage, Domestic Violence and Divorce (Family Life) by Joy Sarkodie-Addo Esq. of the Legal Office, UENR; Financial Management in a University and Personal Financial Management presented by Mr. Stephen Y. Ntiamoah.
