A Team from KEDA Ghana Pays Courtesy Call on UENR Management

A 3-member team from KEDA Ghana, a ceramic-producing company led by the Human Resource Administrator, Dr. David Yevugah, on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, paid a courtesy call on the Management of the University. The visit was to introduce the company to the University and further discuss possible areas of collaboration for mutual benefit.

Receiving the team on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako, the Ag. Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John K.M. Kuwornu briefed them on the University’s achievements over a decade. He thanked the team for considering a partnership with UENR to train graduates for the industry’s needs. He gave them assurance that the University gives the best training to its students who are impacting industries across the country and beyond.

Dr. Yevugah in his introductory statement lauded UENR for giving quality training to its students. He attested that the company currently has Mr. Abubakar Saddique Abdallah an Alumnus of UENR who is one of the best recruits of the company under the Graduate Training Programme. Dr. Yevugah said KEDA Ghana which was established in 2016 with international management, seeks to localize its management, hence the need to partner with academic institutions to bridge the gap between industry and academia. He said the company operates a Graduate Training Programme (GTP) with other universities and is ready to partner with UENR for the same programme including other modules such as internships for students and national service for graduates of the University.

A Mechanical Engineering Alumnus of UENR, Mr. Abubakar Saddique Abdallah under the Graduate Training Programme briefed Management about his experience on the programme and the various stages involved. He attested that they the training programme has been impactful to his career after school.  Adding to the discussion, a Human Resources Administrator at the company, Ms. Diane Luo disclosed to the Management that the company will be embarking on mass recruitment in June and thus asked the University to take advantage and let students apply for the opportunity.

The Ag. Pro VC in his closing remarks suggested that the team should consider having a social development partnership with University to support developmental projects on campus with furnished tiles at a lower rate. He requested that the University Legal Officer, Jonathan Odartey, Esq. liaise with the company for further discussions to draft a Memorandum of Understanding between the two institutions.

The meeting was attended by the Registrar, Solomon Panford, Esq., APR, the Dean of School of Engineering, Prof. Francis Attiogbe; the HoD of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, Dr. Emmanuel Amankwah; Head of University Security Services, Mr. Abdulai Zakaria and Dr. John K. Annan, a Junior Assistant Registrar at the Human Resources Division, UENR.
