The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako has advised the first-year students of the University to be strong and focus on their goals regardless of the challenges they encounter in their academics. The Vice-Chancellor also made the students aware that they are not only in the University to acquire academic knowledge but to be coached on how to be better adults for themselves, the nation and the world.
The Vice-Chancellor was addressing the freshmen at this year’s Matriculation ceremony held on April 1, 2022, and April 2, 2022, at the Dormaa and Sunyani campuses respectively, to welcome them into the university system. Speaking further to the students, Prof. Asare-Bediako them urged to be good ambassadors of the University, and incorporate their home and university values into their daily lives. “UENR is driven by the core values of promoting innovation, creativity, freedom of thought and creative expression, operating with integrity, respect for the conservation of energy and the environment”, he added. The Vice-chancellor on behalf of the University management assured the freshmen to provide the needed resources for their academic endeavours while in school urging them to take the tenets of the matriculation oath as well as the guidelines that spell their rights as cherished stakeholders in the undergraduate and graduate students’ handbook.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, the university admitted 3,107 students for the 2021/2022 academic year to pursue various programmes of higher education of which 257 have enrolled on the School of Graduate Studies.
The President of the Students Representative Council of UENR, Mr. Amankonah D. Kingsford in his speech to welcome the students was certain that their dreams and expectations of getting the right training for their future would be met. He also noted that the Council is available to render its mandate of ensuring students’ welfare for their entire stay on campus.
The Deans of the various schools led the freshmen to administer the Matriculation oath. Other officials present at the ceremony were the Acting Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adebayor Felix Adekoya, the Registrar, Solomon Panford, Esq., APR, Heads of Directorates, Divisions, Departments and Centers.
