BUI POWER AUTHORITY COMMISERATES WITH UENR FOLLOWING ARMED ROBBERY ATTACK  ON SOME STAFF AND STUDENTS

A four-member delegation from Bui Power Authority (BPA) led by the Director of Estate, Mr. Wimbilla Salifu today, April 19, 2024 paid a courtesy to the University Management. Their visit was necessitated by the distressing incident of an armed robbery attack on some UENR Staff and Students returning from an academic field trip tour of the Bui Generating Station.

Speaking further on their mission, Mr. Salifu, said that although a delegation from their organization led by the Community Relations Manager, Mr. Paul Abugri were earlier on campus to enquire about the incident, his team’s presence was to convey the organization’s solidarity to the University during this difficult time. He handed over a commiserative statement signed by Ing. Emmanuel Tandoh, Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Engineering, Operations, and Technical) for the Chief Executive Officer, Hon. Samuel Kofi Ahiave Dzamesi.

The statement expressed “We are deeply saddened to learn about the unfortunate incident that took place on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at 7:00 pm, where a group of students of your institution, returning from a study tour of the Bui Generating Station, were attacked by some armed robbers. On behalf of the Management and Staff of Bui Power Authority, we wish to offer our heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased student extend our sincerest sympathies to the affected students and wish them a speedy recovery. We understand the gravity of this unfortunate incident and the emotional toll it will take on the students, their families as well as the university community. Our thoughts and prayers are with them”.

On behalf of the University Management, the Ag. Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John K. M. Kuwornu received the delegation and expressed his appreciation to the Bui Power Authority for their thoughtfulness and concern during the hard moments of the University. He recognized the strong relations between the two institutions and was hopeful that both would work to achieve a lasting solution to the incident. He called on the BPA to continue to offer any form of support to the University to cater for the deceased family, the victims’ lost items and medical bills as well as other expenses.

Acknowledging Management’s appeal, Mr. Wimbilla assured that the request would be forwarded to the CEO for immediate attention.

The BPA delegation also included Mr. Maximillian Kwarteng, Deputy Director for Renewable Department; and Mr. Mawuli Fui Kwadzovia, Senior Corporate Affairs Officer.

As investigations continue, the University of Energy and Natural Resources and the Bui Power Authority remain united in their commitment to fostering a safe and conducive environment for learning and research, even in the face of adversity.
