As part of the celebration of the Computer Science and Information Technology Students Association (CSITSA) Week, the Department of Computer Science and Informatics organized the Maiden Awards and Dinner Night at Sheila’s Executive Lodge on August 20, 2022. Under the auspices of the Head of the Department, Dr. Peter Appiahene, hardworking and outstanding students, senior staff and senior members of the department were awarded.
In attendance were Acting Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor John K.M. Kuwornu, who represented the Vice-Chancellor, the Registrar, Solomon Panford, Esq., APR and Prof. Emmanuel Owusu Marfo, Head of Department of Chemical Science, Former HOD Dr. Benjamin A. Weyori and some staff of the Department. In attendance also were the student leaders from SRC, NUGS, other Departmental student leaders and Alumni of the Department. Both the Acting Pro VC and the Registrar expressed their goodwill and acknowledgement of the Department’s achievements over the years.
As part of the Ceremony, the outgoing CSITSA Executives led by Mr. Albert Tsiquaye Jnr handed over the baton of leadership to the new executives of both the Computer Science Society and Information Technology Society. In attendance were over 1000 students from the Department who were treated to some soothing music, food and drinks to commemorate the yearlong activities of the Association.
In a related event, the Chairman of the LEC group and a Life Coach, Mr. Albert Kusi has admonished student leaders not to use their positions to amass wealth but to make an impact and help transform their colleagues before they hand over.
Mr. Kusi was speaking at the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) chapter of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), week celebration launch on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at the University Auditorium. “Show leadership and see leadership not as an opportunity to amass wealth but an opportunity to serve others and to make an impact in the lives of others,” he further stressed. He added that student leaders should always make sure they use the students’ dues to organize seminars that will help broaden the knowledge of those who vote them into those positions.
The week launch summit was on the theme: “Developing an entrepreneur youth and Achieving financial goals using Technology” is expected to end on Saturday, August 27, 2022, and will see students embark on a float through the principal streets of Sunyani and engage in some fun activities. Some activities for the week celebration are; musical concert, flex night, basketball night, indoor games, inter school debate among others.
