A Memorandum of Understanding between The Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence (GI-KACE) in ICT and the Department of Computer and Electricals Engineering of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Sunyani was signed to jointly conduct research in emerging technologies to identify ICT needs leading to the development of solutions.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako during the signing of the MoU at the premises of GI-KACE in Accra on June 23, 2022, commended both institutions for their collaboration. “These days, one institution cannot do it alone. Both University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) and Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (GI-KACE) are therefore supposed to support each other to support the government’s vision. GI-KACE is supposed to champion this idea because ICT is now the trend, and so whether you like it or not, it is ICT that is ruling the world and so we want to commend you for what you have been doing,” Prof. Asare-Bediako said. Again, the Vice-Chancellor mentioned that the collaboration is key to supporting each other in order to achieve national development. He added that every sector of government institutions strives on ICT and especially trends in order to survive in the digital space in boosting the national economy.
According to the Director-General of GI-KACE, Dr. Collins Yeboah-Afari, the signing of the MoU between the two institutions forms part of their efforts to help the Government’s Digitalization transformation agenda. “We see this relationship as a building block that will help elevate both institutions’ statuses needed to do our quota in achieving the government’s IT Transformation Agenda,” he stated. Dr. Yeboah-Afari disclosed that the Centre was happy to reinforce the relationship with the University of Energy and Natural Resources, which already existed in the past.
In a related event, the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) would exchange research programmes with the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UABP), a United States-based University. This is to enable both Universities to build a relationship and mutually develop critical academic, and research areas.
This was revealed in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by UENR and UABP on Thursday June 24, 2022, at the Council Chamber of UENR, Sunyani. The focus areas of the MoU included agriculture, fisheries and aquaculture. The agreement shall also afford both universities the innovative use of technology and distance learning in academic programmes, study abroad initiatives, international student recruitment, and faculty staff professional development.
The Assistant Dean for Academic ― UABP, Dr. Nina Lyon Bennett, and the Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor of UENR, Prof. Adebayo Felix Adekoya, signed for their respective institutions.
In attendance to witness the signing ceremony were some HoDs and Heads of Centers in the University of Energy and Natural Resources.
