INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS ASSOCIATION (ISA) OF UENR HOLDS A MAIDEN AKWAABA NIGHT

The International Students Association (ISA) of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) has held their maiden edition of Akwaaba Night to welcome first-year students. The event which was held at the South Ridge Hotel, Sunyani brought together students from different countries to share and exchange ideas in their academic endeavours as well as their stay in Ghana.

The Acting Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Patron of ISA, Prof. Adebayo Felix Adekoya speaking to the students expressed satisfaction at the performance of the Association and its executive since the establishment of the ISA. He mentioned that the creation of the International Relations Office was the core interest of the Association. Prof. Adekoya was confident of the Vice-Chancellor’s support for the International students. He called on the students to be good ambassadors of Ghana and their various countries.

The ISA President, Mr. Moustafa Acakpo in a brief address welcomed the first-year International students and expressed happiness for the gathering. He thanked all present and said the purpose of the dinner was to allow interaction with new international students who has been admitted into the University. Mr. Acakpo mentioned that the students have made the best choice by coming to UENR to pursue their tertiary education. He urged the students not to worry about their stay on campus because UENR has most of the requisite resources needed for their studies. He further stated that through the efforts of the executives and the Patron, the University has created an International Relations Office which will aid in the affairs of International Students. Mr. Acakpo assured the management of the University that the Association will help attract more international students into the University.

The Dean of Students, Dr. Dominic Otoo in a short remark reiterated the fact that UENR is the best choice to make in terms of University education. He noted that though the University is young, it has achieved a lot in the education sector of the country for the past years. The Dean added that UENR prides itself on competitive programmes to train students for the contemporary world. He admonished the students to patronize the service of the office of the Dean of Students and enjoy the welcoming nature of Ghana. He as well encouraged them to take their studies seriously.

The Head of the Department for Civil and Environmental Engineering, Dr. Amos Kabobah in a brief speech encouraged the students to make use of the International Relations Office to address their grievances. He also asked them to collaborate with the staff of the office to discuss the way forward for themselves and the University at large.
