A 2-member delegation from the High Commission of Canada led by Mr. Andrew Maharaj, the Counsellor (Commercial) and Regional Senior Trade Commissioner, on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, paid a working visit to UENR. The delegation held a meeting with the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako and other Management members of the University. The visit was to enable both institutions to explore possible mutually beneficial areas of partnership.
The Vice-Chancellor in his address to welcome the delegation briefed them on the history of the University’s establishment and disclosed to them that UENR is the leading public University in Ghana in terms of energy studies and research and outlined the various Schools operational in the University.
The VC was pleased with the collaboration which is going to exist between UENR and Canadian High Commission, noting the partnership would help acquire more expertise to train students and faculty in energy and natural resources subject matters. He affirmed the University Management’s support for the partnership that would emerge after the meeting.
On his part, Mr. Andrew Maharaj expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor and Management for the warm reception at the University and welcomed the collaboration. He made it known that their main focus was on energy and technical aspects. He appreciated that the Commission is privileged to work together with UENR on such critical issues of development. He proposed that the Commission is considering establishing a company in the Bono Region to serve as a practical training and learning centre for students. He added that the collaboration would also bother on exchange programmes between UENR and Canadian institutions.
Adding to that, Ms. Kathleen Ami Afful, the Trade Commissioner, said the Commission’s key interest is in renewable energy and technical expertise. She was optimistic that the exchange and training programmes will impact students in the University since the project will be sited in Sunyani in the Bono Region.
