Following an established Agreement between UENR and the University of Jaen in Spain, seven (7) students from UENR have been selected to embark on a 5-month academic exchange programme at the University of Jaen. The Agreement is an Erasmus+ programme focused on providing learning mobility for higher education students and staff. The Agreement is valid until 2027, with students and staff mobility for the next four (4) years.
On Friday, February 10, 2023, a Senior Lecturer with the Department of Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering and Academic Coordinator of the Programme, Dr. Edward A. Awafo, led the selected students to meet the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako and other Management members of the University. The purpose of the meeting was to introduce to Management, the successful applicants for the exchange programme and to give a brief on preparations towards their departure. Dr. Awafo informed Management that the Agreement, which birthed the exchange programme, came as a result of sideline discussions held with the University of Jaen during the kick-off meeting of the REFFECT Africa Project in November 2021. He mentioned that after calling for applications and through interviews and other selection processes, seven (7) students; comprising two (2) PhD students, three (3) Master’s students and two (2) Undergraduate students were selected as the first cohort of the programme.
The Vice-Chancellor in his address congratulated the students and urged them to be good ambassadors of the University in their new environment of study. He also advised them to go and study for excellence, which he said would serve as a stepping-stone for additional opportunities for them. The Vice-Chancellor added that “you will be assessed together with other students from different universities, so it is hoped that you put up good behaviour whiles there”.. He also thanked the Academic Coordinator, Dr. Awafo, for his networking efforts, which have benefitted the University in many different ways.
The beneficiary students are Duke Nii Darko Quaye, an Assistant Lecturer with the Department of Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering, Prosper Naah Angnunavuri, a PhD student with the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Augustine Awaafo, an MSc student with the Department of Renewable Energy Engineering, Theophilus Amoah an MSc student with the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Ernest Christlieb Amrago, an MSc student with the Department of Agribusiness Management and Consumer Studies, Victoria Asibi Imabong Ayeh, a BSc student with the Department of Atmospheric and Climate Science and Ernest Kabenla Amankwah, a BSc student with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
