The School of Energy Successfully Organizes Industry 2023 Career Fair

Over a hundred students from the School of Energy and School of Engineering successfully participated in the School of Energy-industry 2023 Career Fair held at Sheila’s Executive Lodge under the theme “Energy Transition Prospects and Challenges: The Role of the Graduate Engineer” on Wednesday, July 12 to Thursday, July 13, 2023.

The participants had the opportunity to engage with over nine (9) Captains within the energy and its related industries to be informed about the current trends in the corporate world in relation to expectations from graduates.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako’s address at the Career Fair affirmed the need in bridging the existing gap between industry and academia by leveraging on existing ties

Addressing the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako affirmed the need in bridging the existing gap between industry and academia by leveraging on existing ties. He noted that the Career Fair provides a platform for exposing students to opportunities in the contemporary job market. He recognized the University’s immense contribution to the national discourse in the energy sector and commended the organizers of the event. He recommended that such initiatives are worth emulating by other Schools in the University as a panacea in training the next generation of experts for national development.

Head of the Department of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering, Dr. Yaw Akyampon Boakye-Ansah said the Career Fair is necessitated by UENR’s mandate to train quality students for the energy and petroleum sectors of the economy

The Head of the Department of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering, Dr. Yaw Akyampon Boakye-Ansah reiterated that the University’s mandate in training students in the energy and petroleum profession and the career fair organized annually offers an interactive platform for students to share ideas and build networking ties with industry players. He urged students to take advantage of such opportunities.

Panel discussions session at Career Fair

The Fair saw exhibitions and presentations from various institutions that participated in tips for securing jobs, internships and national service opportunities. There were a series of panel discussions on topics such as “The Need for Academia-Industry Partnership”; “Diversifying your Talent in the Era of Energy Transition” and “Encouraging Local Participation in Industry: Awareness Creation”. Some of the participating companies were Ghana Gas Company, GRIDCO, Ghana Petroleum Authority, Electricity Company of Ghana, Aquaya Institute and Bui Power Authority among others.

Present at the opening ceremony was the Registrar, Solomon Panford, Esq.,APR.
