UENR and Liaoning Agricultural Vocational Technical College, China to Train Youth in Agricultural Machinery to Improve Farming

The University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) and Liaoning Agricultural Vocational Technical College, China are set to train young people in agricultural machinery project to improve farming in Ghana and the sub-region. The University Management on Monday, April 8, 2024 held a meeting with the Liaoning Agricultural Vocational Technical College (China) to further discuss the project being executed collaboratively.

The Project Lead from UENR and a Lecturer at the Department of Agriculture, Dr. Kwabena Atakora, led the Chinese representatives who were Prof. Lige Wang – Dean of International Affairs and Ing. Wenwen Zhang.    

Welcoming the team, the Vice-Chancellor of UENR, Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako was pleased with the project especially the agricultural development aspect which hinges on the mandates of the UENR. He pledged Management’s continuous support towards the Project.

Professor Lige Wang’s presentation to the University Management indicated that the project is a China-Ghana Luban workshop and it is the first to be held in Ghana. He mentioned that it would be a six to eight-month training that aims at grooming young people and farmers into practical agriculture by using agricultural machinery which will foster effective and efficient farming in Ghana.

The Registrar, Dr. (Mrs.) Georgina Asi Owusu and the Ag. Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John. K. M. Kuwornu commended the team for student involvement in the project and expressed their gratitude to the Liaoning Agricultural Vocational Technical College (China) for choosing to host the maiden edition of the training programme at UENR.

The collaboration between UENR and Liaoning Agricultural Vocational Technical College signifies a concerted effort to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application in agriculture. By equipping the youth with modern farming techniques, the initiative holds the promise of fostering sustainable agricultural development and empowering the next generation of farmers in Ghana.
