The University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) had the privilege of hosting a distinguished delegation from Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology (NUIST), China, from July 7 to July 8, 2024. Led by Professor Mingbao Hu, Vice President of NUIST, the five-member delegation’s visit represented a substantial advancement in the academic partnership between the two institutions.
Following the establishment of a formal partnership through the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed on December 27, 2021, the visit aimed to further solidify and expand this academic cooperation. One prominent proposal on the agenda was the establishment of a Collaborative Climate School, a joint initiative under the auspices of the ‘Belt and Road Initiative.’ The proposal, which has already been formally submitted to UENR, was thoroughly discussed and is expected to be finalized in the near future.
The Vice-Chancellor of UENR, Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako giving his warm welcome note was pleased with the tenets of the partnership between the two Universities and noted the timely nature of the programme. He was optimistic that the collaboration would expand to other disciplines mutually beneficial to both universities.

On his part, Prof. Mingbao Hu, Vice President of NUIST, extended his sincere gratitude to UENR for the cordial welcome extended to the delegation. He expressed his satisfaction with the existing partnership between the two universities while emphasizing that this visit marks the beginning of a new chapter in their collaboration. He reaffirmed NUIST’s commitment to strengthening the partnership. He warmly invited UENR students and staff to explore opportunities for academic exchange and study at NUIST, further solidifying the bond between the two institutions.
The other delegation from NUIST was Mr. Xiaodong Zhu – Director, Division of Finance; Ms. Yanli Cheng – Director, Office of Alumni, Prof. Yueyue Yu – Assistant Dean, School of Atmospheric Sciences. Also present on the UENR side were the Ag. Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John K. M. Kuwornu; the Registrar, Dr. (Mrs.) Georgina Asi Owusu; Dean of School of Geosciences, Prof. Emmanuel Arhin; as well as Faculty members at DACS and other departments.
The University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) and Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology (NUIST) are poised to launch a collaborative 2+2 educational exchange program, initially offering 1-2 Bachelor’s degree majors, with a special emphasis on Atmospheric Sciences. This collaborative endeavor seeks to enrich academic experiences, expand educational horizons, and cultivate a robust exchange of knowledge and ideas between the two institutions.
